Italian Institute for genomic medicine (iigm)

Immune Regulation - Italian Institute for Genomic Medicine

ABOUT US

IIGM is a research foundation created by the Compagnia di San Paolo of Turin. It was established to develop top-quality research and provide advanced training in human genomics and epigenomics, systems biology, immunology and bioinformatics.

Who we are

On November 15, 2007, the Compagnia di San Paolo, the University of Turin and the Politecnico di Torino formed a Participation Foundation: the Human Genetics Foundation – Turin.
The idea was born to develop research of excellence and build advanced training paths in the field of genetics, genomics and human proteomics.

Obtained legal recognition in 2008, the activities in the premises of the Center for Molecular Biotechnology of the University of Turin in Via Nizza 52 began, starting in 2010.
2017 is the year of the change of name to the “Italian Institute for Genomic Medicine” (IIGM). A step that precedes the approval of a new strategic plan more oriented towards translational, precision medicine and biomedicine.

In 2019 the set-up of the Foundation changes: the University of Turin and the Politecnico di Torino renounce their rights as founding members, transforming IIGM into a monocratic entity of the Compagnia di San Paolo.

From July 2019, also following the signing of the agreement with the Piedmont Foundation for Oncology – IRCCS of Candiolo, for the establishment of a new joint research platform, the registered office of IIGM is transferred to Piazza Bernini 5 in Turin and the operational headquarters to the 3º floor of the first tower of the Institute for the Research and Treatment of Cancer of Candiolo.

Research - Italian Institute for Genomic Medicine

Mission

Our goal is to become a reference center in Italy for translational research and precision medicine.

We want to train a new generation of talented scientists and scientists and start a path that will allow them to become a point of reference for the international research of tomorrow.

We are working to raise the standards of research in our country: by developing intellectual property of scientific value, we can contribute to the birth of new companies and the increase in investment in biotechnology.

Organization

The structure of our Foundation is solid and at the same time very streamlined. This model of management efficiency and transparency makes it possible to maximize resources for research and service activities for the scientific community.

The Board of Directors consists of five members, including the President who has the legal representation of the Foundation.

The Scientific Director exercises the powers for the ordinary management delegated to him by the Board of Directors and collaborates with the President coordinating the institutional activity according to the indications and resolutions of the Board itself.

The operating office coordinates and optimizes the design and operational activities of the foundation in order to make them more effective and functional for the management process.

Finally, there is a Supervisory Body that exercises powers and functions provided for by art. 2403 et seq. of the Civil Code.

The task of voluntary audit of the financial statements was entrusted to the company Ernst & Young.
