Job Description

RESEARCH ENGINEER 1, MIT CAVE LAB AND MIT INTELLIGENT LOGISTICS SYSTEMS LAB, Center for Transportation & Logistics (CTL)-MIT Cave Lab-Intelligent Logistics Systems Lab (ILS)-Humanitarian Supply Chain Lab (HSCL), to conduct research- and education-focused supply chain design and analysis, with a focus on supply chain management in the context of humanitarian and disaster response and data-driven interactive supply chain design.  Will support CAVE’s technical conceptualization and development efforts to enable software implementations that support research on the use of interactive visualization in supply chain analysis and design; and support the conceptualization, implementation, testing, and refinement of machine learning and hybrid methodological approaches of ILS and CTL-affiliated research projects.  Responsibilities include creating and disseminating knowledge through theoretical and applied research; contributing to the publication of research results; delivering professional reports for sponsors; planning and conducting quantitative research and analysis; supporting student involvement in research projects; engaging research peers and industry partners throughout research collaborations; leveraging research results to support the development of new educational materials and curricula; developing educational programs for students/professionals; and creating proposals and supporting material to solicit new research funding from private/public sector sponsors.  


Job Requirements

REQUIRED: master’s degree in operations management, supply chain management, transportation, computer science, data science, operations research, or related field; two years’ related experience; knowledge of theoretical and empirical research methods; experience with data collection and management, mathematical modeling, software implementation, UI/UX design, machine learning theory and applications, and generative artificial intelligence theory and applications; ability to conceptualize, conduct, and present in-depth quantitative analyses; excellent communication and presentation skills; history of working without significant hands-on guidance/direction; and willingness to contribute to CTL’s broader mission. PREFERRED:  experience with software development and supply chain analytics.  Job #24177

The position is based in Massachusetts but may require occasional domestic and international travel.
