At the Faculty of Medicine, Department of Health Science and Technology, a position as Associate Professor in Medical Image Analysis is open for appointment from February 1, 2025, or soon thereafter.




Job description

Department of Health Science and Technology carries out multidisciplinary research, teaching and dissemination within biomedical engineering, sports science and medicine. The department has more than 250 employees and is responsible for more than 1700 students. More than 70 PhD students are enrolled in the doctoral school affiliated to the department. The researchers are organized in a number of research groups and centres, and the department has at its disposal laboratory and clean room facilities for cell growth, molecular biology, brain analysis, 3D movement analysis, respiratory and circulatory examinations, sensory and motor functions analysis, etc. All study programs at Aalborg University involve problem-based learning, organized around cases and projects. The main responsibilities of the position are research within the area of medical image analysis, along with teaching and project supervision at the bachelor and master’s degree programs in biomedical engineering, clinical science and technology, digital health, AI engineering and medicine. The successful candidate(s) must have strong theoretical knowledge and an internationally recognized publication track record within medical image analysis, along with solid experience with teaching and supervision at the bachelor and master’s degree programs. Further, they must demonstrate the capability of conducting research projects in collaboration with university colleagues, health care professionals as well as other external collaboration partners. The candidate will be affiliated with the research group“Medical Informatics and Image Analysis”.

The successful candidate should hold a master’s degree in biomedical engineering, computer science, or a related field, and their PhD research must fall within the area of medical image analysis. The candidate should have articulated visions and plans for future research and be able to teach courses in medical image analysis, machine learning, and statistics and supervise bachelor, master, and PhD students. It will be considered an advantage, but not a prerequisite, that applicants have experience with problem-based learning in alignment with Aalborg University's pedagogical model.

Qualification requirements: 

The level of qualification for Associate Professors shall correspond to the level, which can be achieved on the basis of the appointment as Assistant Professor, but may be achievable in other ways. The appointment presupposes that the applicant can demonstrate original scientific production at an international level as well as documented teaching qualifications. Appointment to the position requires that both research and teaching qualifications are at the requested level. The two qualifications will be given equal and principal priority in the overall assessment.

Wages and employment

Employment is in accordance with the Ministerial Order on the Appointment of Academic Staff at Universities(the Appointment Order) and the Ministry of Finance's current Job Structure for Academic Staff at Universities. Employment and salary are in accordance with the collective agreement for state-employed academics.
